UW Credit Union to build on Northport Drive

The city?s north side will soon see construction of a new UW Credit Union where Brennan?s used to be on Northport Drive. When it opens next year, it will be the credit union?s 13th location in Dane County and 22nd location in the state.

Chris Farley Foundation takes final bow

Tom Farley announced the immediate shutdown of the Chris Farley Foundation, which he founded in memory of his late brother, actor and comedian Chris Farley. Farley is leaving the area to become executive director of marketing and communications at Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa, and will be unable to continue work on the foundation, which was founded in 1998.

Steinhafels receives approval for east side store

Steinhafels has once again received approval from the city to pursue the construction of an east side store. The furniture company first received approval in 2009 but has been waiting for the economy to improve before building. In the interim, Steinhafels has been leasing retail space in East Towne Mall. The company now hopes to break ground in spring 2013 on the proposed East Springs Drive store, which would employ about 85 people.

Forest Products Laboratory opens pilot plant

The Forest Products Laboratory opened a $1.7 million nanocellulose pilot plant at 1 Gifford Pinchot Drive in Madison. It will support a growing market for wood products by using nanotechnology to produce cost-effective products stronger than Kevlar but lighter in weight than carbon fiber or fiberglass.

Veolia ES Solid Waste likely to be sold

Pending regulatory approvals, Milwaukee-based Veolia ES Solid Waste, one of the largest solid waste companies in the country, will likely be sold to Star Atlantic Waste Holdings II for $1.91 billion. The deal is expected to be completed this fall.
